Alexandre Mattiussi has called Paris home for close to two decades; at his brand AMI, the designer regular finds inspiration in the French capital and its insouciant inhabitants. “I love my city,” Mattiussi told us recently.  “It’s so inspirational. The French dress in a very particular way – there’s definitely a sense of effortlessness”. Following best-selling collections since the brand’s launch in 2011 and Paris themed collaborations with chocolatier Pierre Herme and others, the designer continues his ode to the city of love with AMI Spring 2018.

AMI Spring 2018 : Ode to Paris landmarks

Set against sweeping views of the river Seine on an unusually hot June day, Mattiussi’s gang of Paris boys about town modelled a collection referencing the city’s most memorable views in colours, prints and textures. Floral shorts are worn with matching shirts, both referencing the vibrant petal-printed deckchairs installed at the temporary inner city beaches Paris Plage nearby. Green details on beige Western style shirts mirrored the foliage of trees lining Canal Saint Martin; a 1950s style bowling shirt features two black and white stripes, placed to resemble the stone pillars at the centre of Paris’ Palais Royal. Other references were more ephemeral, such as the burgundy red fabric of a zipped boilersuit, dyed to resemble “the red wine that toasts to new friendships”. Mattiussi’s brand is called AMI after all.
