Born and raised in Vienna, Arthur Arbesser made his Milan Fashion Week debut in 2013. Previously, the Central Saint Martins trained designer had honed his craft at Giorgio Armani’s legendary ateliers; his first show, set in a friend’s apartment, catapulted Arbesser to the front lines of the Milan’s new wave of emerging designers. Colourful yet wearable, contemporary yet tinged with nostalgia and plenty of visual throwbacks to his Austrian roots, Arbesser’s womenswear is one of a kind. Now, the designer is set to conquer men’s wardrobes too, courtesy of a new capsule collection launched with online retailer YOOX. “I was immediately up for it!”, Arbesser told us shortly after the collaboration’s debut. “It was just before last Christmas that YOOX approached me about a menswear and womenswear capsule idea”. Arbesser’s decision to collaborate was not all altruistic. “It’s so much fun to finally wear some of my own designs”. This is not the first time that YOOX and Arbesser’s paths cross; in 2013, the designer was named one of the winners in the womenswear category of YOOX’ Who’s On Next.

For his capsule collection, Arbesser finished wardrobe staples in imaginative geometric prints. A men’s printed garbardine cotton jacket is canvas to black, white and green circles on a white base, worn best with black Bermuda shorts detailed with white pick-stitching. Another jacket is printed in visually arresting monochrome, reminding of 1960s Op Art.  The jackets are amongst Arbesser’s personal favourites. “I love a cool piece that upgrades your easy casual outfit”, he explains, describing the design. “I’d say it would be great at a gallery opening in Berlin, worn over a white t-shirt and jeans”.

Arthur Arbesser YOOX is a full wardrobe for both sexes, encompassing everything from logo branded T-shirts (top of our wish list) and luxurious Viscose knits to socks, shorts and skirts. When asked to name his own favourite online purchase to date, Arbesser’s answer is rather pragmatic: “I think it has to be our great steamer in the office!”
