Ashish Set to Present Retrospective at V&A

Known for his fun and sparkly approach to fashion, designer Ashish Gupta is the latest designer to partner with V&A’s Fashion in Motion series.

Four catwalk shows will take place as part of the museum’s popular initiative which gives people an opportunity to witness fashion shows free of cost. Visitors will be treated to some of Gupta’s signature sequins dresses, rainbow coloured sportswear and frayed metallic denim.

Alexander Mcqueen, Jenny Peckham, Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood and Yohji Yamamoto are few of the many designers who have previously showcased at the event.

“I’m greatly honoured to have been asked to do a retrospective show of my work as part of the Fashion in Motion series at the V&A. I will be combining work from collections from the last 10 years. Going through my archives has been a fun and nostalgic experience and I am looking forward to creating an exciting presentation of the best of a decade of my work,” said Gupta.

The designer who originally hails from New Delhi in India, studied Fine Art in the country before getting a place on the prestigious MA Fashion course at Central Saint Martins.

He struggled for a significant amount of time even after his entire portfolio of work was stolen in Paris before he finally established his eponymous label in London.

Gupta has also previously collaborated on capsule collections for high street label Topshop and won the New Generation award three times since his first London Fashion Week show in 2004.
