Vivetta for Beijing Fashion Week

Bejing Fashion Week

Beijing Fashion Week is maybe not as well known as the resident mean girls of fashion month (aka London, Paris and Milan) but that by no mean takes away from the pure artistic capabilities of the talented designers who presented their work this season at Beijing Fashion Week.

Mercedes-Benz presented Italian designer Vivetta Ponti at Mercedes-Benz China Fashion Week for the first time, unveiling her eponymous brand, Vivetta, Autumn/Winter 2017 Collection as part of the Mercedes-Benz International Designer Exchange Programme.

The collection had its debut at Beijing Fashion Week with a bright and fun barbie pink catwalk that reflected the fun aesthetic of the pieces that were full of colour and very reminiscent of the romantic element that never fails to appear in Ponti’s collections. The Autumn/Winter 2017 collection began with a dazzling 1940s circus with masked ladies, harlequins, acrobats, Pierrot clowns and merry-go-round unicorns all appearing as delicately charming hand-embroidered motifs on vintage-hued silhouettes. She introduced soft velvet and vinyl to the signature poplin and tulle Vivetta fabrics, all invoking a mood of retro greatness in vibrant jewelled colours.

Ponti, educated at Liceo Linguistico Le Mantellate in Florence, and at cfp Paullo in Milan, started her career at Roberto Cavalli where she spent three years on the design team. Yet after winning a design competition in Paris, she launched her namesake label in 2009. Particularly known for its playful, often surrealist-inspired take on feminine dressing, Vivetta has since established itself as a brand for cool women looking for quirky and not so typical pieces.

Vivetta has a celebrity following of A-listers including; Elle Fanning, Alexa Chung, Chiara and Valentina Ferragni. Ponti is based in Florence, and her hyper-romantic pieces are all designed, manufactured and usually hand-worked in Italy. Her work is stocked by leading retailers including Barney’s NY, Selfridges, Avenue 32, Harrods, Le Bon Marché, Moda Operandi and Bosco Ciliegi.

When talking about her launch into Beijing Fashion Week, Vivetta Ponti said: “I am delighted to present my collection in Beijing this season and to reinforce my Italian aesthetic with a Chinese audience. I am grateful to Mercedes-Benz for helping to increase my brand’s presence in a key market, and am hugely excited about what the next few years hold for Vivetta.”
