CMMN SWDN: The making of a Scandi fashion brand Safir Bakir and Emma Headlund, the design duo behind the brand CMMN SWDN shared experiences at many international brands – from London’s House of Holland and Swede COS to Seoul / Paris fashion force Wooyoungmi before working with Virgil Abloh for Kayne West. Stationed close to historic Seven Dials, a large and decorated shipping container plays host to the dinosaur gang, lead by fun-loving Rexy. Her compatriots include Tricky the Triceratops, Steggy the Stegosaurus and our favourite – the very sanguine looking Woolly the Woolly Mammoth. In time for the gift-giving season, find all four docile beasts immortalised as part of the Coach Holiday 2016 collection; from leather zip wallets to key chains and coin cases.

“Paris provides a highly prestigious backdrop, and this location in particular, in one of the city’s liveliest districts”, says legendary Italian fashion designer Giorgio Armani of the city’s left bank, the site of the new re-opened Emporio Armani store and cafe. Located at 149, Boulevard St. Germain, this sleek and contemporary outpost of the Milan designed mens- and womenswear line adds to Italian fashion’s foothold on Paris.
Over the course of just a few years, Seoul Fashion Week, the twice annual event taking over the South Korean capital in January and October, has risen to become a colourful platform for some of the most innovative brands. Such is the international interest in the event, that this season homegrown talent such as D-Antidote is joined by travelling guests; both Caruso and Manish Arora feature on the Spring Summer 2017 schedule. With the third day of shows about to start, we joined designer Songzio in his Seoul studio to learn more about the city’s fashion, and how the industry has changed since the brand’s launch in 1993.
‘When I was 16 or 18 we used to go to these small clubs in Belgium. The highest ‘wave’ of New Wave was over, but we were still listening to that music in those dark little clubs’, says Belgian designer Kris Van Assche in the AW16 print issue of Something About. Inspired by the night time adventures of Dior Homme’s Creative Director, we shot the Parisian brand’s lauded AW16 collection in the small hours of the day; the morning after clubs have closed and parties are all but hazy memories.
In Something About AW16, our third print issue, we celebrate the enduring work of all-American designer Ralph Lauren and his handsome interpretation of all things British. “There was a lot of debate with my studio team over which prints to choose but in the end it was very easy; each print means something to me and says so much about me, my interests and my collections over the last 10 years’. Ten years have passed since his London Fashion Week debut in 2006; time enough for Christopher Kane to firmly position his namesake brand as one of London’s most lauded houses. To celebrate, Kane has launched ’10 Capsule’, a look back at his greatest prints.
“What excites me about collaborating with TOMS is our shared belief in inspiring others and giving back. We’re coming together to make a difference in the world by what we do” Prapal Gurung says of his most recent extra-curricular project. It has been ten years since Blake Mycoskie first set out to build a fashion company based on a ‘One for One’ business model; a charitable concept that sees one pair of shoes given to a child in need for every pair of TOMS sold.
This season the work of the French artist has met its match with Emporio Armani’s fall/winter 2016 accessories collection. The artist has created a series of specially commissioned backdrops for six suitably ‘pop’ inspired pieces, including a very glittery pair of pink midi heels. Each 3D tableau is a fun take on display with vibrant and rhythmic geometric shapes.
