Chloe AW17 Show The Last for Clare Waight Keller

Chloe AW17 Show

Who was the best Chloe front row girl? Was it Clémence Poésy in her cool denim tunic with rolled up sleeves? Or the bare faced and breathtakingly stunning Sofía Sanchez de Betak? Or perhaps the title belongs the iconic and timelessly beautiful Isabelle Huppert in simple summer indigo jeans and tailored Chloe jacket? The truth is, all of these stars looked ineffably Parisian. Even Solange Knowles (who sang at the ‘Chloe Club’ after party later on) and Emma Roberts ramped up their demoiselles dress codes. The latter in a pretty white lace dress. The former in a navy taileur pantalons with saucer-size Chloe sunglasses.

If the Frow was girly and tastefully muted, the catwalk was Psychedelic Optimism according to creative director Clare Waight Keller, for whom this was the final show of her six year-long tenure at the French house. Psychedelic is probably a little grandiose as far as show subtext goes, though her appropriation of 1960s style was obvious in this collection with its pussy bow shirts, mini dresses, swirly prints (including mushrooms) floral flightiness and starry shaped collars. Oh, and let’s not forget those cute Mary Janes.

Chloe AW17 Show:

Waight Keller name checked The Beatles Yellow Submarine as a point of reference. While this wasn’t wildly whacky and abstract like the famous four’s icon of surrealist cinema, the Chloe AW17 show was admittedly gentle and sweet just like this seminal 60s animation. Beyond that it would be hard to draw parallels without sounding tenuous. In short, the Chloe AW17 show was a peaceful and pretty exit for the designer, spiced up with the odd pepper shake of 90s style thanks to ‘shell suit’ trackies and babydoll dresses (very Courtney Love circa Hole). Clare Waight Keller left on a high for sure, but it wasn’t totally far out. Maybe that’s for the best, for who knows where she’s off to next.
