Danish designer Asger Juel Larsen has risen from the ashes at Copenhagen Fashion Week with his spring/summer 2017 collection “Burned But Not Fried.” His Copenhagen studio burned to the ground on 12 March, 2016. His entire archive was destroyed and he used this fire to fuel his creativity. The fire was a reoccurring theme in the SS17 collection with graphic flame logos are emblazoned on the front of t-shirts and fiery AJL badges are sewn onto polos. Red punk tartans were paired with ash frayed denim, and salvaged materials from the fire are used as patches. He even has embroidered the date of the fire on the front band of cargo trousers, and badges that say “Burned Not Fried”.

The looks are accessorised with bucket hats, socks with the AJL logo are pulled high, and to show what a true cowboy Asger Juel Larsen is, models wore Western badges with a start around their necks. The belts also feature a star on the large buckle.

Asger Juel Larsen graduated from the London College of Fashion in 2011, and interned at John Richmond and Burberry Prorsum before launching his own label. He launched his label while still in school, showcasing his collection at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in 2011 before he graduated. Quickly gaining distribution internationally, he went on to win the Woolmark 2014/15 Prize in the European Regional Menswear Sector, where he honed in on wool knits and fur coats. He also has a non-seasonal unisex line A.J.L Madhouse.

But as he picks up the pieces after losing everything, Asger Juel Larsen’s streetwear label is cast in a new light – his SS17 collection is hot, hot, hot. It’s on fire!
