Dior Homme Depeche Mode Autumn Winter 2018. “All I ever wanted, All I ever needed”. 27 years after Dave Gahan first recorded the global hit Enjoy the Silence, it turns out that what the Depeche Mode frontman is really after is the season’s Dior Homme wardrobe, as the Parisian brand had recruited the raven haired stage veteran to star in its latest advertising campaign. Shot by British photographer David Sims, the campaign also includes American actor Lucas Hedges, a recent Academy Award nominee for his role in 2016 blockbuster Manchester by the Sea.

Dior Homme Depeche Mode Autumn Winter 2018 and when Kris Van Assche first mentioned Depeche Mode’s influence at Dior Homme’s January 2017 show.

“I feel the world needs dreaming right now”, Kris Van Assche explained just minutes after the collection’s runway debut. “The beginning of the show was more about new wave which is my territory going into the wave parts, the Gabbas the Candy boys, the like all these party kids that used to go all the way”.

Autumn Winter 2018 marks a landmark season for the brand, as Kris van Assche celebrates his ten year anniversary as creative director. Presented during last January’s Paris Fashion Week, the collection was stage-set against signal red ‘Hardior’ taping, a detail also captured in David Sim’s images. Arranged in diptych, Sims, Hedges and male model of the moment Dylan Rogues sport van Assche’s juxtaposition of Parisian tailoring and memories of his own teenage memories of attending raves in Belgium. Deconstructed pinstripe suiting and leather trench coats are worn with metal metal hardware accessories , shielding sunglasses and rubber soled trainers.

A first hint of things to come may have been the Paris’ show soundtrack, a remix that included Dave Gahan’s deep voice. “It’s Depeche Mode”, Kris Van Assche said after the show, describing the rave-worthy soundtrack. “The whole New Wave part is always the starting point. We Belgians like a dark vibe. I very much like what I remember when I used to go to these clubs. I was very much the quiet one”.
