What Alexandre Mattiussi did next

Eastpak AMI: Alexandre Mattiussi follows his all-Parisian Spring 2018 show with an exclusive collaboration available now.

Just a few days ago, AMI was one of the highlights when Spring 2018 men’s fashion week unfolded in Paris. While not born in the French capital, the brand’s designer Alexandre Mattiussi has been living and working in Paris for close to two decades. The city has proven to deliver endless inspiration, and AMI Spring 2018 is an ode to Paris and its chic citizens as fabrics, print and colours paid homage to some of it’s most picturesque sights. As Mattiussi told us: “The French dress in a very particular way – there’s definitely a sense of effortlessness”.

Available from June 2017, Mattiussi’s latest project instills Boston based brand Eastpak with a healthy dose of French Je ne said quoi. The collaboration, which includes three styles, combines the best of both companies: Mattiussi’s joyful use of colour and Eastpak’s longstanding focus on practicality. The company’s best-selling backpack, the Padded Pak’r, is made using coated zippers and seatbelt webbing for the straps. Mattiussi’s version comes in pared back black, with red detailing on the top handle and bright purple zipper.

The Ami Topload takes inspiration from traditional military equipment. Available in both nylon or full leather, the backpack includes a large volume main compartment, accessible (as the name suggests) via its string closure top. For even more space, there are three red-zip’ed outside compartments. Ideal for walks in the Bois de Boulogne, Mattiussi has also designed a bum bag. The AMI ‘Banana’ Waistbag comes oversized, with yellow detailing. Zips are bright red, perhaps in homage to the designer’s favoured red wool hat.
