H&M Conscious: The Beaux Arts Collections

H&M has turned its attention to the archives of Paris’ Musee des Arts Decoratifs for its latest Conscious Collection which will launch on April 7th. The muse this season is Julia Restoin Roitfeld, daughter of the formidable Carine and eco champion and style maven in her own right. Patterns and colours will draw from masterpieces of the 17th-19th centuries including paintings by 19th century Symbolist painter, Gustave Moreau – one such tableau was the inspiration behind the floor length iconographic dress worn by Julia in the photo below. H&M is the sponsor for the museum’s spring exhibition Fashion Forward – Three Centuries of Fashion, which will bring together 300 pieces of fashion set against decorative items from different eras. Expect rare pieces from the archives (the museum holds over 150 000 fashion pieces from textiles to haute couture) set against 18th century wallpapers by Zuber and straw marquetry doors designed by Jean-Michel Frank for the writer François Mauriac. The exhibition will take place in the museum’s Rue de Rivoli Wing in the Louvres from April 7th to August 14th.
