In Downtown New York with adidas Originals Campus

Almost four decades have passed since Adidas first launched its Campus style, and this year the German sportswear expert is celebrating the suede shoe with the launch of a new Adidas Originals Campus campaign. The Campus, a low fitting suede trainer replete with Adidas’ three stripes (now a Trefoil logo), was originally designed and crafted to be worn on 1980s Basketball courts. Like the best of trainers – from Superstar to Stan Smith – the Campus was soon adopted as a streetwear stable, worn by the likes of Run D.M.C. and the Beastie Boys. In spirit, photographer Kenneth Capello returns the Campus to its former hunting grounds, as his new campaign for the Adidas Originals Campus casts New York’s finest, inspired by the city’s downtown scene of the 1990s. Capello captures teenage skating hero Blondey McCoy, pro skateboarder Na-Kel Smith, joined by models Tavia Bonetti and Tiffany Lighty living it up on Manhattan’s streets.
