Toilet Paper is the brainchild of renowned image-makers Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, whose talents lie in their ability to capture a modern image and spin it so it looks like it’s sprung out of the Surrealist movement of the 1920s.

It came as no surprise therefore to see fashion powerhouse, Kenzo naturally gravitate towards these masters of illusion. When Opening Ceremony’s founding duo, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon became Creative Directors of the cult brand in 2011, they turned the label on its head. Toilet Paper seemed the perfect coupling for Kenzo’s new aesthetic.

The duo are now in their third collaborative season, creating some of fashion’s most thought-provoking and unique campaigns. Expect a culmination of Dalmatians disguised as tigers, goldfish in shoes and tiny weeny humans all creating a mind-boggling set of visuals.

Toilet Paper has developed this collaboration further with Kenzo’s Kenzine, a bi-annual publication that, in the words of Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. “take a people on a mysterious journey to an unfamiliar world. A place where the ordinary is slightly distorted, mirrors lead to other dimensions and the strange and beautiful coexist in singular harmony.”

The magazine is like a limited edition art directory that challenges the norms of still life photography – it’s highly collectible, not to mention fun.

As if Kenzo wasn’t a big enough collab for Toilet Paper, Maurizio and Pierpaolo have also been commissioned by V Magazine, Palais de Tokyo and Wallpaper, establishing a visual brand identity that is instantly recognisable and incredibly weird. Have a look at their archive of GIFs on their Tumblr!
