London Fashion Week, The Vogue Green Carpet Party

To show the world the sustainable face of fashion means the Vogue ‘green carpet party’ at London Fashion Week is attracting growing numbers of fashion designers and celebrities alike.

The event was supported by the British Fashion Council and among those attending were Vogue editor Anna Wintour, actresses Keira Knightley and Helena Bonham Carter along with designer Victoria Beckham.

The idea for the evening in 2016 was to celebrate some of the best red carpet fashion moments and the event attracted lots of media attention.

It helps too that the green party challenge attracts designers and leading lights of the fashion world as well as fashion lovers to either produce or choose clothing which helps to meet sustainable principles.

Many people believe that fashion can be wasteful but the industry is striving to prove that it’s not only ethical but offers sustainability as well.

Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour attended in a striking gold brocade coat

Indeed, Vogue’s editor Anna Wintour attended in a striking gold brocade coat and her signature sunglasses while many of those attending were in vintage couture gowns from the likes of Alexander McQueen and John Galliano, among others.

One of the messages from the green carpet challenge is that fashion lovers should only buy something that they will wear for a minimum of 30 times and fashion-lovers are being urged to recycle as many outfits for high profile events as they can rather than buying a new outfit for every appearance.

As mentioned previously, the sustainability of fashion is of growing importance and fashion houses are keen to promote their ethical standards along with their social welfare commitments for those who work for them and their suppliers.

The green carpet challenge is growing in popularity with various fashion events and mainstream award shows wanting to stage it and the fashion world is keen to promote their ethical standards to the wider public and the idea that outfits and fashion creations can be worn more than once by those in the public eye is gaining in popularity.
