Love on Fire: Lucie Von Alten and girlfriend Eliot Sumner are the faces of Berlin Fashion Week SS17

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin is kicking off with a dystopian drama.

The new Mercedes-Benz SS17 Fashion Campaign (released seasonally to mark the German event) is shot by director Christian Larson is anything but saccharine and vanilla. In the short video, Austrian model Lucie Von Alten and her real life partner, the musician Eliot Sumner (AKA Coco Sumner) eye each other up amidst flames and the backdrop of a dark industrial setting, complete with silver CLA Merc; lovers caught in the metaphorical crossfire of desire and emotional conflagration.

David Koma has supplied the looks for the campaign, drawing from his AW17 collection which took inspiration from LA-based sculptor Frank Cota, whose work he describes as “rusty, brittle but feminine at the same time.” There’s a touch of Terminator 2 about the whole thing ( the world changing dramatically through some sort of apocalypse only not as ‘doomsday’ as this of course) which indirectly compounds the idea of hitherto smaller Fashion Weeks slowly taking on the mantle of commercial and creative leadership from the three stalwarts of September: New York, Milan and London.
