Meet Wilson PK

It’s every fashion graduate’s dream: you create your first collection and suddenly boom! Your name goes global. Why? Because Lady Gaga sees it and has her favourite pieces shipped to her. It’s the fashion equivalent to a Willy Wonka moment with Wilson PK holding the golden ticket. One important point of difference though with the Roald Dahl classic: the Central Saint Martins graduate doesn’t owe his success to luck – he’s earned his stripes working at a variety of fashion houses including Alexander Wang, Iris Van Herpen and Craig Lawrence. In 2012 he was awarded the Umbria Cashmere District Award for his creative weaving and knitwear and although Lady Gaga’s praise gave him the most headlines, Wilson PK has also designed for Bjork. Impressive for someone who is still in his early 20s.

The A-list acquisition of his SS15 collection has somewhat clouded the beauty and message of the clothes. Called, (I’M) Purity the collection was inspired by his experience of coming out to his parents, with plenty of biblical references and subtleties relating genetic science – the complexities clearly run deep.

His AW15 collection, 100% Fragile Human, turns its attention to London’s artist communities and the paradox between the city’s skyscrapers and its run down council estates. His artfulness can be seen in the way he alloys contradictions: primary colours that are clashed with structured monotones, playful, textural knitwear justaposed with 3D printed beading and rubber mixed lambs wool.

Never mind Lady Gaga, let’s talk about the designer who’s creating his own movement in fashion design.
