Naomi Kawase’s New Film Seed for Miu Miu

Miu Miu’s 11th commissioned film – part of its Women’s Tale initiative – is by award-winning Japanese director Naomi Kawase. The nine minute video has very little spoken word, and instead uses powerful sound effects (a tumbling waterfall, a piece of gauzy fabric in the wind) as well as sun-dappled cinematography to convey Kawase’s sensory-indulgent narrative about a girl travelling from the Japanese countryside to the smoggy cityscape of Tokyo. The soundtrack was composed by the band Sakanation, famous for their fusion of folk melodies and artful lyrics.
