Pre-Fall 2017 Louis Vuitton:
There’s nothing quite like a great pre-collection to make you want to chuck your old winter threads into the recycling bin. See the pre-Fall 2017 Louis Vuitton collection and chances are you will wince at the thought of wearing your trusty woolen coat. You’ll feel genuine resentment as you pull on your old boots. Nicolas Ghesquiere’s vision for this pre-Fall collection was clearly the 1960s with A-line mini skirts, capes, Mod-style leather jackets and patent over-the-knew boots which. FYI, these are a BIG deal for SS17 as well as AW17 (see Balenciaga and Fendi). It is a collection that shouts commercial appeal loud and proud. As John Demsey, executive group president of Estée Lauder Companies recently told the Business of fashion, “Pre-collections are as big, if not bigger, than fashion collections.” Also let it be underlined: pre-fall collections are in stores the longest, dropping in November and often carrying through until January.
If mainline RTW is the cream of the crop, pre-collections are the bread and butter of the luxury label. The latter are usually more safe; more wearable and released at that crucial time of year when we all struggle with trans-seasonal wardrobe crisis. The campaign was shot by Bruce Weber against a city skyline and ‘parking lot’ backdrop which further compounds the everyday wear undertones of the collection. A flash of (LV) orange, a chevron pattern and some patent kinky boots is really all you need for a happy journey into winter 2018, or so says Nicholas Ghesquiere and his cohorts at Louis Vuitton. Count us in.
