Special Edition Vans

We’ve all been on the lookout for special Edition Vans over the last few years. From Kenzo prints and Disney cartoons to the Pop Art designs of San Fran artist Zio Ziegler, they have all been big hits with sneaker fans. If you’re lucky to own a pair from the Pendleton x Taka Hayashi x Vault by Vans 2015 Fall/Winter Capsule Collection, those kicks are worth some serious wedge right now; some are fetching up to £300 on eBay. Quids in!

The company’s latest collection isn’t collaborative in the traditional sense but by no means less covetable. It draws on the roots of the brand and specifically the canvas sneakers that were sold in 1966 straight from the factory’s connecting retail boutique in Anaheim, California.
Three  footwear models – the Authentic 44, Old Skool 46 and Sk8-Hi -38 – use original design moulds for a retro 60s/70s feel. Another clever addition is the slight sheen of the canvas that was originally found on the material as a result of Vans’ early vulcanisation process. The entire offering features heavy a 10-oz. canvas and the Sidestripe models showcase a suede toe cap, heel counter and eyestay.

The colourways are suitably authentic as you would expect of a company that rightfully celebrates its skater origins. The racing red and light grey would have been worn by all the young dudes of the day. The difference is that these modernised versions are way more comfortable: each pair is equipped with a premium Ultra CushÔ footliner. Perfect for that peace & love Cali-vibe.
