Summer Stripes

What do Casey-Hayford, Gucci and Emporio Armani all have in common this summer? Stripes! The season’s trend for days in the sun. For Spring/Summer 2015 stripes were paraded up and down the catwalk in various guises as designers made them more directional than ever. Bettlejuice may spring to mind when you see Emporio Armani’s humbug striped leather jackets but there were many permutations including ‘barcode’ stripes and lines that looked like they belonged on a music songsheet.

Gucci and Duchamp updated the French Rivera look with their take on the Breton stripe blazer. For the Italian design house it was all about the vertical, with straight-up ‘prison’ stripes on skinny trousers and jackets, arresting was definitely the overall effect.

Casely-Hayford brought it back to the office with their graphic pinstripe suits, while Haider Ackermann mapped his roomy blazers and slouchy jerseys in earthy toned stripes for his Paris collection. Nineties Club Kids made a comeback when JW Anderson matched his pinstripe cropped trousers with off-the -shoulder tops. But the pot of gold goes to James Long who sent models down the runway in a jubilant celebration of rainbow stripes.
